Governance Expert, Sikwindi Situla, says the ongoing instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) directly affects Zambia, as the DRC is a growing trade partner.
Mr. Situla emphasized that Africa cannot afford internal conflicts due to the continent’s need for economic growth, technological advancement, and political stability.
He stressed the importance of maintaining peace to foster sustainable development.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Situla highlighted the need to support the DRC in eliminating foreign actors who are fuelling conflict.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Southern Africa Cross Border Traders Association, Jacob Makambwe, has urged cross-border traders, especially those operating within the DRC, to exercise caution.
He warned that trade between Zambia and the DRC could be significantly affected by the current situation.
“The decision to increase security at border points aims to monitor the situation in the DRC and prevent unforeseen circumstances,” said Mr. Makambwe.
