ABSA BANK REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ZAMBIA’S ECONOMY

Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, says there can be no meaningful development in Zambia without a vibrant and thriving banking sector to spur economic activity.

Speaking at a business luncheon organized by Absa Bank, Dr. Musokotwane highlighted the indispensable role the banking sector plays in Zambia’s economic emancipation.

He emphasized that the sector has been a cornerstone of growth, providing vital financial services that fuel entrepreneurship, support industries, and drive national development.

“The New Dawn Government places a high premium on the banking sector,” said Dr. Musokotwane.

The Minister expressed optimism over the growing presence of Zambian financial entities at this year’s Indaba, describing it as a testament to the sector’s resilience and potential.

He reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to ensuring a conducive environment for banks and financial stakeholders to operate and expand.

Adding to the dialogue, Absa Bank Zambia’s Chief Executive Officer, Mizinga Melu, shared her enthusiasm about the productive engagements at the Indaba.

“It was an honor to have a successful business meeting with the Minister amidst the dynamic activities of the Mining Indaba,” she said.

Ms. Melu underscored the significance of the event as a platform for African pioneers and change-makers shaping the future of the continent’s mining industry.
