The Advocates For Democratic Governance Foundation (ADEG) has urged government to expedite the remaining processes of enacting into law, the Public Gathering Bill.
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, announced that the Public Gathering Bill which seeks to replace the public order act is ready for submission to cabinet for final consideration.
ADEG Executive Director, Gideon Musonda, says as the country heads to the 2026 General Elections, it is imperative that government enacts the bill into law, to ensure citizens enjoy their rights to Freedom of Association, Expression, and Assembly.
“Government must also provide a clear roadmap and ensure greater transparency through regular updates to the public on the bill,” said Mr. Musonda in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He has also called on Cabinet to protect the integrity of people’s submissions and ensure that their concerns are reflected in the final Bill.
