BREBNAR CHANGALA WELCOMES VISIT OF  IRENE KHAN

Governance Expert, Brebnar Changala has welcomed the visit by the United Nations delegate, Irene Khan to assess issues relating to freedom of opinion and expression, alleging that the country has faced significant human rights concerns, particularly under the leadership of President Hichilema.

Mr. Changala alleges that the country has seen an increase in police arrests on opposition leaders, ordinary Zambians who wish to air out their views and civic organization leaders.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Changala has noted that Zambia is a member state of the African Union (AU), Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), saying that Ms. Khans visit aims to bridge the gap between government and its citizens by engaging dialogue and understanding on underlying issues.

“The assessment will shed light on the human rights situation in Zambia and provide recommendations and improvement to the country’s development and freedom,” said Mr. Changala.
