The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it will begin the systematic removal of all illegal structures across the city.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says this arises from numerous complaints received by the council regarding illegal makeshift stalls, trading activities without permits and the indiscriminate disposal of waste by some institutions, residents and members of the general public.
Ms. Mwamba said that the council will also remove all unauthorized makeshift structures, particularly along road frontages by some residents.
“The illegal activities do not only contravene the city planning regulations but also obstruct pedestrian walkways, pose safety risks and create other hazards,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Mwamba further said that traders operating without valid permits are urged to regularize their businesses or face enforcement actions.
She said that the Council will intensify efforts to restore order, cleanliness and adherence to public health regulations in the city.
