ERB ORDERS PETROLEUM TRANSPORTERS TO PRIORITIZE LOCAL MARKET

The Energy Regulation Board ERB has directed Petroleum transporters licensed by the Board to only transport petroleum products for the local market.

The Board has also directed the transporters to obtain written approval from ERB before transporting the petroleum products outside the country, stating that conditions warranting the approval shall be issued by Friday 24th January 2025.

In a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today, ERB Director General, Elijah Sichone, said the directives have been put in place to address the logistical challenges surrounding the supply of petroleum products into the country.

“Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) shall submit monthly transport returns as directed by ERB, detailing compliance to the Citizens Economic Empowerment Regulations S.I No. 35 of 2021,” said Mr. Sichone in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said OMCs are prohibited from engaging third parties to undertake business activities related to petroleum sector which they are not licensed to undertake.

Mr. Sichone emphasized that for the next 90 days, where specific OMCs and Petroleum Products Transporters fail to reach consensus on terms for the uptake of local available road tank vehicles, ERB shall facilitate the assignment of Petroleum Product Transporters to specific OMCs in consultation with the parties involved.

He further said OMCs and Petroleum Products Transporters who may have challenges in implementing these among other directives, are encouraged to immediately get in touch with ERB.
