IBA URGES PETAUKE BROADCASTING STATIONS TO BE ETHICAL

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has called on broadcasting stations in Petauke and other areas where by-elections are taking place to uphold legal requirements and ethical standards for election coverage.

IBA Board Member, Mumbuna Kufekisa made the call after the authority engaged Petauke-based radio stations in preparation for the upcoming by-election.

“The visit aims to sensitize licenses on the importance of adhering to legal provisions when covering the by-election, ensuring fair and responsible reporting,” said Mr. Kufekisa when IBA paid a courtesy call on Petauke District Commissioner Martha Mulenga.

Mr. Kufekisa has also appealed to stakeholders to support radio stations in the area, noting that fostering positive working relationships between broadcasting stations and stakeholders is crucial for delivering quality broadcasting services that meet community needs.

He has emphasized the importance of protecting the stations to ensure they operate in a safe and secure environment, allowing them to operate freely and reach their full potential within the law.

And speaking during a sensitization programme on PASME Radio, IBA Acting Director General, Susen Ndumingo encouraged the public to exercise their right to complain, whenever they are aggrieved with content aired by any radio or television station.

This is contained in a statement issued to RCV News by IBA Department of Corporate Communication.
