Lukumo Ntambo Foundation (LNF) Founder, Mwaanza Changala, has called for intentional community awareness on Sickle Cell anaemia to address challenges faced by individuals living with the disease.
Ms. Changala emphasized that raising awareness is crucial for creating an informed community where people can learn from one another and offer support to those affected by sickle cell.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Ms. Changala said that a deeper understanding of the disease would foster empathy and encourage collective efforts to address the issues faced by individuals and families living with the disease.
“By educating the public, awareness can contribute to breaking the stigma surrounding the disease and improve the quality of life for those impacted,” said Ms. Changala.
Ms. Changala reiterated that community awareness is important in addressing the challenges posed by sickle cell to help grow the community in understanding and offering better support to those affected.
She further urged the government, to integrate Sickle Cell education into the school curricula, to build a more informed and supportive society free from stigma.
