CSO URGES  INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Civil Society Self -Coordinating Mechanism has called for inclusive development for Persons with Disabilities, as Zambia commemorates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, under the theme  “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.”

Organization National Project Coordinator, Michael Gwaba, says it is importance to empower individuals with disabilities to take the lead in shaping their own destinies and contribute to society.

In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Gwaba urged government, private sector, and civil society to prioritize disability inclusion by  integrating disability considerations into all development plans and policies.

“Promote inclusive education by providing quality education for children with disabilities, including teachers with specialized training,” appealed Mr. Gwaba.

He said there is also need to enhance healthcare access by expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services including national schemes for persons with disabilities.

Mr. Gwaba further called for  entrepreneurship support and creation of employment opportunities and initiatives for persons with disabilities

He also called for end on  stigma and discrimination on persons with disability by raising awareness about disability rights and challenge negative stereotypes.
