CNMC SET TO FULLY DE-WATER LUANSHYA SHAFT 28 BY 2025

China Non-Ferrous Mining Corporation (CNMC) Luanshya Copper Mines Limited has  pumped out 26% of the overall water that needs to be pumped out of the 28 Shaft Luanshya Copper Mines in Luanshya on the Copperbelt, with the process expected to be completed by end of 2025.

In April this year, President Hakainde Hichilema  commissioned the process of de-watering the flooded 28 Shaft CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines, to pave way for the commencement of actual copper mining at the site which has been dormant for over 20 years.

Speaking during a meeting with President Hichilema at State House this morning, CNMC Chairman, Weng Gang, said advanced equipment has been provided to ensure the speedy completion of the de-watering process.

And Mr. Weng said CNMC is investing an additional close to USD1.5b across the mines on the Copperbelt to increase production.

He also praised President Hakainde Hichilema for his receptive business investment policies, saying this has made Zambia achieve a good business environment.

Speaking during the same meeting, President Hichilema assured CNMC that government will work on license overlaps and tax issues that are standing in the way of investment in the mines.

President Hichilema praised the additional investment pledge of close to USD1.5b by CNMC, saying it is in  line with Zambia’s vision to attain 3 million metric tones of Copper Production by the year 2031.

And President Hichilema called for proper management for Zambia to achieve its development target and to create the needed jobs for the locals.
