Opposition Alliance for Change Party Leader, Andyford Banda, has urged government to immediately suspend the issuance of mining licenses to foreigners until Zambians are capacitated to run the mines.
Mr. Banda said this in Lusaka today when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, “Zambia at 60”.
He said that the continued issuance of mining licenses to foreign investors is depriving the nation of the potential benefits in the mining sector.
“Let the nation close shop on awarding licenses to foreigners and train Zambians on how to run the mines,” said Mr. Banda.
He has stressed the need for Zmbians to run the mines to ensure the resources realised from the minerals remain in the country.
