Four People have died on the spot, while 29 have sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident involving a Juldan Bus, en route to South Africa.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, says the accident happened this morning around 04:30 hours at the Kafue Boys Secondary School junction along the Great North Road.

Mr. Hamoonga said that the Juldan Marcopolo bus with registration number BAJ 3715, was extensively damaged.

“The bus was being driven by Lebani Mwanza, aged 32, of Lusaka, who sustained suspected internal injuries and is currently admitted to Kafue General Hospital,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said that preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred due to excessive speed, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, saying that the bus overturned and landed on its right side.

Mr. Hamoonga said that the 29 injured have been  admitted to Kafue General Hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, awaiting formal identification by their families.

He said that the remaining passengers could not be accounted for as they were neither found at the scene nor admitted to the hospital.
