Economic Analyst, Yusuf Dodia, has supported calls for mining companies to start generating their own electricity ,to ease off demand from the National grid.
Mr. Dodia said this in Lusaka today, when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, “2025 National budget review”.
Last week on the same platform, Kamfinsa member of parliament, Christopher Kang’ombe, encouraged mining companies to produce their own electricity through coal.
“This is the right direction to move because mining companies need alot of power that stresses the National grid,” said Mr. Dodia.
He said that this could be a long term solution to addressing the energy crisis that the nation is currently facing.
Mr. Dodia said that this would also enable ZESCO focus its attention on providing electricity to residentials, small business and companies in the formal sector.
