ZESCO SUBMITS FRESH APPLICATION TO ADJUST ELECTRICITY TARIFFS

ZESCO limited has submitted a fresh application to the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) for an emergency tariff adjustment.

In August, ERB rejected ZESCO’s application for an emergency tariff adjustment, to increase tariffs for its residential, commercial, and maximum demand customers during the national emergency period.

Speaking during a media engagement in Lusaka today, ZESCO Head Business, Fitz Kapepe, has maintained that ZESCO needs to raise US$14 million monthly from retail customers, to support the procurement of additional power imports during the crisis.

“ZESCO has tweaked the new tariff  adjustments that will see customers that use 200 kilowatts per hour and below reduce by 9%, while customers that use 300kilowats per hour increase by 23%,” said Mr. Kapepe.

And. ZESCO limited Director Transmission Justice operation and Trade, Justine Loongo,   has announced that ZESCO will start importing 400megwats of power from Eskom of south Africa during off peak hours starting tomorrow, 2, October, 2024.

He said that ZESCO will only import power from Eskom at peak hours depending on its availability from south Africa.

Mr. Loongo however did not inform the nation on the exact number of hours customers will receive power effective today, following a pronouncement by Minister of Energy, Mokozo Chikote, that the nation will see a stability of power availability effective  October 1, 2024.
