Twenty-eight (28) people in Mkushi and Serenje Districts of Central Province have been arrested for operating unregistered pharmacies and agroveterinary shops contrary to section 14 (1) of the Medicines and Allied substances Act No. 3 of 2013 of the Laws of Zambia.
This followed an operation that was conducted by the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Commission in Kapiri Mposhi and Serenje Districts, between the 13th and 28th September 2024.
ZAMRA Senior Public Relations Officer, Ludovic Mwape, says the activity was aimed at curbing the increasing illegal trade in medicines and allied substances on the Zambian market.
“The outlets were mapped during the sensitisation program that was conducted prior to the operation,” said Mr. Mwape in a statemenet issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said that the suspects were released on police bond and will appear in court soon.
Mr. Mwape has reaffirmed ZAMRA’s commitment to ensuring that only registered pharmaceutical outlets are operational.
