Three illegal Miners have died after being trapped in a pit where they were digging for suspected gold, at Mulopwe Metal Mining Limited, located in the Dengwe area of Chief Kasempa in Kasempa District.
“The three bodies were later retrieved by unknown individuals, believed to be friends of the deceased,” Police Public Relations Officer Rea Hamoonga has said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Hamoonga said the accident occurred today, at approximately 03:48 hours.
He said a Police officer in charge of the patrol team based at Mulopwe Metal Mining Limited, received a phone call from a concerned member of the public, informing him that three illegal miners had been trapped in a pit and found the bodies already retrieved when he arrived.
Mr. Hamoonga identified the deceased as, Gabriel Mukanzu, aged 28, Jacob Chulu, aged 25 and a man only identified as Daniel.
