The Centre for Trade Policy and Development CTPD Executive Director, Isaac Mwaipopo, has called for the equal distribution of relief food to all citizens affected by the drought.
His comments come after reports of alleged discrepancies in the distribution process, with some sections of affected communities feeling they deserve more than the other by virtue of proximity or affiliation to the party in power.
Mr. Mwaipopo has however appealed to government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit DMMU to ensure fair distribution of relief food.
“There is need to implement a fair and equitable distribution system that prioritizes the most vulnerable populations, ensuring that all regions receive their fair share of the relief food,” said Mr. Mwaipopo in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He has also stressed the need for accountability of resources that have been donated to the Zambian Government to support efforts towards provision of relief food across provinces where the drought was severe.
Mr. Mwaipopo said that this is cardinal in ensuring prudency in the management of resources that government is entrusted with on behalf of the People.
