Kanyama’s Garden Park Ward 10 Councillor, Gerald Samboko, has announced that 80,000 residents will benefit from an emergency water distribution initiative launched in response to the ongoing floods in the area.
Speaking at an emergency CDF committee meeting convened to address the crisis, Mr. Samboko said there is urgent need to restore normal water supply.
He revealed that seven health posts across the constituency have been designated as water bowser placement centres, serving as key distribution points for the community.
In addition, Mr. Samboko called for intensified public awareness regarding the prolonged electricity blackout in Kanyama.
“The power outage, now stretching into seven days, is putting immense strain on the residents and Zesco is urged to engage the community on safety measures and expedite efforts to restore electricity as soon as humanly possible,” said Mr. Samboko in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
During the same meeting, Chinika Ward 11 councillor, Masautso Ngoma and his Makeni Villa Counter-part Fred Mumba have backed calls to break some wall fences, blocking the smooth flow of water.
The committee proposed to engage people under the Cash For Work Program to save on labour costs.
The exercise will be undertaken in 14 days starting immediately.
