8,000 TEACHER VACANCIES REMAIN UNFILLED – NAQEZ

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has called on government to recruit more than 8,000 teachers to address the ongoing staffing crisis in schools and ensure quality education for all learners.

This comes after the Teaching Service Commission announced yesterday that the selection process for the recruitment of 4,500 teachers will be completed next week.

But speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa, expressed concern that the planned recruitment falls short of the actual need.

“The teaching sector in Zambia is facing a crisis, with over 8,000 vacancies in public schools still unfilled and the Ministry of Education loses approximately 6,000 teachers annually due to retirement and other factors, yet the current recruitment plans do not cover this shortfall,” said Dr. Chansa.

He urged government to prioritize teacher recruitment and allocate adequate resources to strengthen the education sector.
