58-YEAR-OLD TANZANIAN DRIVER DEPORTED

The Department of Immigration on 10th May, 2024, deported a 58-year-old Tanzanian Driver Shabani Ally Uzigo, after serving a 9 month prison sentence for aiding 4 Somali illegal immigrants. 

The Isoka Immigration Office arrested him on 26th October 2023 at Mwaiseni Checkpoint, driving a Democratic Republic of Congo-bound Scania Truck and Trailer Registration number T310CLR, carrying 4 undocumented Somali nationals.

Department of Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka says on 10th November 2023, the Isoka Magistrate Court convicted and sentenced him to pay a fine of K 60,000 or 9 months simple imprisonment.

“He served the prison sentence after failing to pay the fine,” said Mr. Nshink in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, the Ndola Regional Immigration Office on 10th May, 2024 detained a Congolese deportee, Ngoie Ndjibuaged 62 for unlawfully returning to Zambia.

Mr. Nshinka said that he was detained after being handed-over to the Ndola Regional Immigration Office by Police who had apprehended him in Kansenshi for loitering on 9th May, 2024.

He said that investigations later revealed that he had returned to Zambia after being deported on 20th June 2023 via Kasumbalesa Border Control.

Mr. Nshinka said that he is detained pending prosecution.

And Mr. Nshinka said that the Department of Immigration between 10th and 12th May, 2024 apprehended 51 persons for various immigration offences countrywide, removed 48 illegal immigrants from the country and refused six foreign nationals entry for failing to meet entry requirements.
