The Zambia Police Service has arrested and formally charged three individuals for the production and distribution of obscene materials, in violation of Section 177 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga identified the suspects as David Kazadi (34), Mwaka Halwiindi (23), and Ruby Muzandu (23).
According to Mr. Hamoonga, the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations and digital surveillance carried out by the Police Cybercrime Unit.
“Mwaka Halwiindi has been charged with two counts of making or producing obscene videos tending to corrupt morals, contrary to Section 177(1)(a) of the Penal Code Act,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He added that Ruby Muzandu faces one count of conveying or exporting obscene materials, contrary to Section 177(1)(b), while David Kazadi has been charged with two counts of producing obscene content under Section 177(1)(a), and two counts of circulating obscene materials under Section 177(1)(b) of the same Act.
Mr. Hamoonga stated that the offenses involve the creation, sharing, and transmission of content deemed to be obscene and capable of corrupting public morals.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
The Zambia Police Service has since issued a stern warning to the public, urging citizens to refrain from engaging in activities that violate public morality and decency.
