2024 SOCIAL PROTECTION WEEK LAUNCHED

Government has launched the 2024 Zambia Social Protection Week slated for 17th to 21st June 2024 to be held under the theme, “Sustainable Social Protection for Resilience Building”.

Speaking during the launch today, Labor and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba said the commemoration of the Social Protection Week is important as it provides a platform that brings together various players in the social protection sector to generate valuable feedback from stakeholders.

“The platform is not only to showcase programs with the beneficiaries and public, but also allows for learning, enhancement and growth”, said Ms. Tambatamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Ms. Tambatamba said the adoption of the theme could not have come at a better time than now when the country is faced with the impact of the drought, especially in the world of work and the general social protection landscape.

She said her Ministry will continue to undertake all activities, including policy analysis and review, research and strategic planning, with the view to strengthening and consolidating the social protection landscape in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Ms. Tambatamba said government is committed to ensuring that pension reforms are undertaken as demonstrated through the reduction of NAPSA penalties, the introduction of penalty waivers and the introduction of the 20% pre-retirement benefit.
