20 ETHIOPIANS APPREHENDED IN CHIPATA CAR CHASE

The Chipata Regional Immigration Office has apprehended 20 male Ethiopian nationals aged between 15 and 28 for illegal entry.

They were nabbed on 27th August, 2024 at around 21:45 hours along Kanjala Road in Chipata, loaded in a black Toyota Probox Vehicle.

“The Office received the tip-off from Zambia Revenue Authority who along with the Police arrived at the scene almost at same time as the Immigration Officers who caught-up with the Toyota Probox after the driver jumped off the moving vehicle before it came to a halt,” Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka has said in a statement issued in Lusaka today.

Mr. Nshinka said Nineteen did not have any documentations on them while one had an Ethiopians Passport with immigration endorsement for Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzanian but none for Malawi and Zambia.

He said the Driver remains at large while the 20 Ethiopians are detained at Chipata Central Police Station pending further investigations.

And Mr. Nshinka said the Solwezi Immigration Office on 27th August, 2024 served eight more Tanzanians aged between 18 and 40 with notices to leave the country for giving false information to an Immigration Officer.

He said the group was intercepted at the Kapiji Checkpoint aboard a Kasempa-bound LG Public Service Bus following inconsistencies in their true purpose of visit.

“The Chipata and Solwezi incidents brought the number of persons nabbed for various immigration offences countrywide between 27th and 28th August, 2024 to 64,” said Mr. Nshinka.
