1 NEW CHOLERA CASE RECORDED IN CHILILABOMBWE

Zambia has in the past 24 hours recorded one new cholera case in Chililabombwe with no fatalities, bringing the cumulative number of Cholera patients admitted countrywide to 17.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Ndola Teaching Hospital today, Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima said this brings the number of active cases to 15 on the Copperbelt province while 2 are admitted in Nakonde district of Muchinga province.

Dr. Muchima said most of the patients admitted on the Copperbelt Province are non-residents of Chililabombwe or Kasumbalesa but traders from other towns.

“The non-residents sleep in makeshift containers without proper sanitary facilities and adequate water as most of the waste generated in the area is thrown indiscriminately around and within the storm water drainages,” said Dr. Muchima.

He has reassured the public that all the patients are stable, and some may be discharged during the course of the day.

The Minister has also assured the ongoing efforts to control the outbreak and emphasized the importance of community collaboration in combating the disease.
