PUBLIC URGED TO APPROACH CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS WITH A SOBER MIND

Operation Young Vote (OYV) Executive Director, Guess Nyirenda, has called on the public to approach the ongoing constitutional reform debates with sobriety and a constructive mindset, emphasizing the need for consensus-building to safeguard and strengthen the country’s democratic foundations.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Nyirenda highlighted the importance of inclusive public participation, urging citizens to actively engage with government in crafting a constitution that truly reflects the will, values, and aspirations of the people.

He cautioned against rigid or polarized positions during the reform process, stressing instead, the importance of unity and cooperation.

“The legitimacy of what goes into or is removed from the Constitution comes from the people and that is why it is critical for citizens to take an active interest and work together to build a strong, collective voice throughout the reform process,” said Mr. Nyirenda.

He further noted that national development and unity can only be achieved through inclusive and transparent dialogue, anchored in mutual respect and a shared commitment to democratic ideals.
