Chief Justice Mumba Malila says reporting of court matters by journalists is an extension of the right to be heard in public.
In an interview in London before departure for Zambia yesterday evening, the Chief Justice described as very successful the just ended Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association conference held in Cardiff, Wales, under the theme “Open justice”.
According to Dr. Malila, the conference explored ways to make judicial proceedings more accessible to the public as part of the right to a fair hearing before an independent tribunal in open court.
Chief Justice Dr. Malila said the lessons picked from the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association meeting in Cardiff, would be tabled when the Judiciary holds its policy committee meeting before the end of this year.
This is contained in a statement issued in Lusaka today by First Secretary – Press at the Zambian High Commission in London Speedwell Mupuchi.
