Access Bank Zambia Managing Director Lishala Situmbeko has assured the public that the merger between Access Bank and Atlas Mara will play a key role in Zambia’s economic recovery, building on gains from both banks to contribute to improved access to financial services for all clients.

He was speaking in Lusaka last evening, during an event with stakeholders.

“Externally the combination creates a larger platform to access the COMESA banking opportunity, supporting customers within the region through the Access Bank network,” said Mr. Situmbeko.

He said the  merger also provides clients with a larger combined balance sheet, broader international footprint and increased access to trade finance, treasury, international payments and loans via the wider distribution network of the enlarged bank.

“Once combined, Access Bank will be firmly in the Top 5 banking groups in Zambia and have the largest branch and ATM network, with a presence across all provinces, enabling convenience for customers,” said Mr. Situmbeko.

He said the there are other value additive opportunities that are being looked at for customers, many of which will not wait for the finalisation of the combination.

Speaking at the same meeting, Access Bank Executive Director for African Subsidiaries, Seyi Kumapayi said Access bank will transform the African financial services sector by changing the narrative of the continent and creating a globally connected community and ecosystem, inspired by Africa, for the world.

Mr. Kumapayi reiterated that the bank remains committed to providing improved services to all its clients.

“The goal is to ensure Access Bank becomes the top bank in the world,” said Mr. Kumapayi.
